Today is the last day of my vacation. I use that term loosely because when you work for yourself, there's never a vacation. The business is always on our minds.
But we learned a good lesson from last year -- it is what it is. When things get slow, do what you can to speed it up but stop and smell the roses as you're doing it.
December 2011 was no exception. Very few people want their homes torn up in the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even if they're signing contracts for work, we know they want to wait until after the new year. We embraced that idea this year.
My husband and I spent 2 days in New York roaming the city and eating at The Stanton Social one night and Pigalle another. I can't forget the fabulous fish and chips we had at A Salt and Battery! That was for lunch when I was dragging my husband all over the city. We also went to the World Trade Center memorial site, Century-21 department store and the Bryant Park and Grand Central Terminal Holiday Markets. It was a great trip and we decided it needs to be a twice a year event because I can't cram everything into 2 days!
But now it's January 2nd and I'm going to let this last day go to waste! I have a small list of things to clean and organize to get my office and myself ready for 2012.
(Macy's in NYC! I was waiting for Martha, and Michael and Jessica to pop out into the aisle!)

That sounds like a blast! I have never been to NY, but it's on the list!
