I managed to kick myself into gear physically and lost a few pounds, a pant size or two and altogether feel pretty good about myself heading in to bathing suit weather.
Mentally - eh, I'm me. 50 years worth of mental angst, middle child syndrome. If you don't like me - build a bridge and get over it. What?! I'm 50! a card carrying member of AARP I can say what I want!
The days leading up to the BIG DAY were spent in New York City with my husband. Sightseeing, dining out, and taking in the sights on a Circle Cruise Lines tour.

That night we had dinner with my twin and her husband and my son who I'm always delighted to have around. I bought special hats for the occasion.
And created a birthday present from a poem my twin wrote about Twins that was in my father's handwriting along with pictures from our lives.

Finished off with a Carvel ice cream cake.
It was a great day -- and then it was over and life was back to normal again. I was just another year older.

Happy Birthday, albeit belated! Sounds like you had a great day. So, I love the part where you say "if you don't like me build a bridge and get over it." I may have to use that. :)P.S. And I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father!
Well- sounds like you're off to a great start! Good for you! Love your attitude!
I am sorry about your Daddy.
He raised a wonderful girl, though!
That was a good way to celebrate your "big day!" I love celebrating my birthdays but in the end age is just a number and I am still just me no matter my age!
Belated happy birthday wishes to you!
