Tonite at the Movies

One of my New Years Resolutions for 2010 is to GO TO THE MOVIES! I'm always reading about new movies and saying how much I'd LOVE to see them and then they come and go before I give it another thought.

This morning my husband offered to take me to a movie this afternoon. My first response was (of course), "Oh I can't! I haven't spent any time in the office this week, I have bills to pay, blahblahblah. But as I was breezing through the work on my desk, I realized it was doable. That's a Jakiela trait by the way -- ask us something and we'll say No, but give us a little time to think about it and we usually say Yes...

There are plenty of movies I could choose from -- It's Complicated; Up In The Air; Sherlock Holmes and Avatar. Any one of them would be a good choice - but which would be the "right" choice for the two of us. I eliminated It's Complicated because I think it might be more of a chick flick and I'll save that for me and my friends or just myself. I didn't know if a self-employed person who spends his life thinking about jobs he has or jobs he didn't get would be interested in people losing their jobs so Up In The Air was out. Sherlock Holmes was a possibility but then dear husband raised the stakes and said that our son was interested in Avatar and would GO WITH US if we went to that. Now realize, our son is 19.5 years old. He hasn't been to a movie with us since he was 14 and we would go on New Years Eve. This was BIG. So of course I chose Avatar.

I confess I hadn't paid any attention to the hype about this movie. I'd seen commercials and thought it was a Star Wars type movie. In the 70s I fell asleep in the theater during the first Star Wars. But when I went to the movies a few weeks ago (Blind Side!), I saw a trailer for it and thought it looked - OK. Just OK. WOW was I wrong!

It's so much fun to watch a movie in 3-D. The plants and flowers and bugs were so real! The story was simple, you sort of knew how it would turn out but it was really enjoyable to watch. I confess I did fall asleep for a little bit but only because it was late afternoon and when my butt falls asleep it travels up my back to my head and I'm out. I don't think I missed anything major and it was not a reflection on the movie! Just my age.

Happy New Year from me and my men. Stay healthy, try to be happy and make every day a good one!

That's great you got to see a movie and enjoyed it! Even better that your son went wtih you guys! I have wondered about going to see Avatar. I saw Up in the Air over New Years for my birthday and liked it but it was a bit depressing. My parents and my brother and his wife saw It's Complicated and despite their initial reluctance both my dad and brother said it was very funny. I'm going with my mom to see Leap Year tomorrow.

There is nothing better than going to the movies in the afternoon. I don't even care what I see, as long as I see it alone and have candy.

Thank you for stopping by my blog!

I am following you now.

I thought Up In The Air was a little depressing, but my husband loved it.

I thought It's Complicated was hilarious and very cute.

Now I want to see Leap Year, When In Rome and Valentine's Day. Yes, I lean towards the chick flicks!

I loved Avatar too. I like the message that we can't go around invading other people's homes because we want something they have. And the other message that people from other cultures aren't necessarily hostile or ignorant, and we should be careful not to think of them that way...
